SUMMARY
At the beginning of the 10th month in the year of 640 AD / 562 Saka, Marangga – 20 years old - and five of his friends were graduated from the military officers candidate school
at The Kingdom of Kalinga, a large and well known empire in Central Java, Dwipantara, in the 7th century.
With happy hearts Marangga said thankful to The Most
Gracious and Merciful[i] caused of reaching one of the ideals of his life even though he ever sued to
The Almighty.
Why his goal being a merchant was deflected to be a soldier? And anyway, he ever protested
to The
Creator of Life. Why since childhood he lived without his father and mother ? Where were they?
All the same after realizing the destiny couldn’t be hindered at the one side and the fate could be changed at the other side, so that Marangga - with a
youthful spirit and ability to fight and scheming - performed his duties as a soldier for the security and
integrity of The Kalinga State. His position sequently as the special army officer, spy, commander of troop,
military adviser and finally as the special envoy of the king, had taken him away to various places. Not only limited
to the State of Kalinga in Bang Tengah (Central Java) and Bang Wetan (East
Java), but also exploring Tatar Sunda (West Java), Balidwipa (Bali), as well as Swarnadwipa
(Sumatra) and Warunadwipa (Kalimantan).
In his journey, Marangga had opportunity
to meet and work together with many dukes, King Wretikandayun and Rakryan Sancang of Galuh,
Sang Linggawarman of Tarumanagara, Tarusbawa of Sunda and Sri Jayanasa of
Sriwijaya. More than that he saw many people's lives trinkets. Among these : how fierce people scrambling the earth's riches and sucking the wealth of the peoples, how easily the human being misguided by the promises on behalf of the truth of
human beliefs and how ferociously the
fighting and preserving power.
In those course anyway, Marangga experienced
being preferred by
some women, including be loved by and
loved Putri Sima, granddaughter of Duke of Medang Kamulan.
Moreover his friendship with many women had led him to a better understanding of the female who created by The Almighty as the pair of the male.
That various
lessons made
Marangga more wisely. Many kinds of wisdom were also pushed him -after early retirement of soldiering - to
contribute his ideas, time and effort as well as his wealth in
keeping the peace not only in Kalingga but also in Dwipantara.
His hope was a simple thing. Don’t just
caused by a few of rulers who are hostile because of personal problems, many
people become victims of war. He wanted the unity among tribes and nations in
Dwipantara can be realized without war. He dreamt of compatriots in Dwipantara
together with the people from everywhere could enjoy life secure, peaceful and
prosperous.
Therefore, by utilizing his openness as the rich
merchant who could sail to all corners of Dwipantara, he tried to cool
tensions between the royals. Among them are : the dispute
between Kingdom of Kalinga and Galuh Kingdom, the squabble between Kingdom of Tarumanagara
and Galuh Kingdom, disharmony between Tarumanagara Kingdom and Kingdom of Kalinga, the quarrel between
Sriwijaya Kingdom and Kingdom of Tarumanagara as well as
the unsuitability between Kingdom of Sriwijaya and
Kalinga Kingdom. More than that, he sought to restore the good name of Pu
Brajagiri, the great war commander from Tarumanagara Kingdom, descendants of the common
people, who died due to the accusations.
All the same
nevertheless, Marangga was a human. How smart and
skilled in controlling himself, he once intercepted by anxiety. Upset after knowing
that in fact he had a right as the heir of the Kingdom of Kalinga when King Kartikeyasinga
was killed. Upset when Putri Sima, who he loved and be loved, became The Queen of Kalinga after
her husband's death.
Would he took over the throne that
can easily be gained? Whether he would reconnect the old love after managing to
save Princess Sima from the people who was trying to overthrow the woman who he
loved ?
This novel titled 'Wirawigna Ring
Dwipantara' is the first episode of novel series ‘The Outriggers of Nanhai'. This
episode narrates that Marangga, newly graduated from the military officer
school of the Kingdom of Kalinga, was on leave before the inauguration.
Starting this moment he muttered repeatedly thanksgiving to The Almighty who
creates causes and effects which is often regarded as something troublesome or
otherwise something fun.
Because since childhood wasn’t spoiled, so at this 20 years old he had strong capability in self-defense
arts and have many kinds of knowledge. Because accidentally beating people who tried to blackmail, he was once being the leader of a gang. Because precedenced friend to be paired with
the girl that he also liked, he
had many friends. Because several times to quell anger, he had opportunity to pursue military education and to be friends with a lot
of important men. Because visiting the people who had contributed to him, his secrecy would be opened.
And
finally when came back to Kutaraja ahead of his inauguration, he concluded that nothing can be happened without something. And none of something will give badness to everyone,
including to himself.

to thee, O Almighty The Creator of Life. For You I am led to glory as the peacekeeper, not as the bully and destroyer of
the country that I love. Praise be to You, " murmured his heart.
